“Angels coming down from heaven like ‘hey you up?’” 🤣💀 God never pushed me to read the Bible in a year before now and now I know he wanted me to experience like this 😂
I am really enjoying this Bible Study and your weekly recaps. I like this week's the best because you give a quick overview of the weeks readings and then a few bullet points for each day. I think it gives enough guidance to help readers get into it, but leaves enough for the readers to think on their own about that day's/weeks reading. 😊
Thoughtfull exploration of Genesis and Job's interwoven themes. The sackcloth imagery really captures how suffering becomes both a personal and communal language in the Hebrew Bible. I've studied these passages before, dunno why more people dont see the technicolor dreamcoat and gray sackcloth as narrative bookends.
“Light fighting with darkness, a VIP section called the firmament, and two nudist vegans living in a luxury garden, where the dress code is nothing and the only rule is, ‘Don’t eat off-menu.” — the highlight of the post 👏🏻
Joseph cries a lot… my translation says he sobbed and wept many many times about his brothers and his father (I am reading ahead). It’s interesting to me that this is pointed out so often. Other men tear their clothes in grief but Joseph gets all the waterworks. So many emotions… Genesis is epic.
It’s so common (to read that people tore their clothes in grief)… I bet most people wore some kind of light scarf or cowl (protection from sun and sand, perhaps?) that was easy to tear. Or - we are all much weaker than early humans. I am endlessly curious.
I’m curious why it was ok for Joseph to practice deviation but for everyone else it’s an occult practice. Joseph’s source was God so is that when divination is acceptable? When Gods the source? It makes sense but I had never really thought about this before. Just had it in my head that divination is evil. I’ve read this story so many times, it’s one of my most favorite’s. Can’t believe I never questioned this before.
I like this questioning. There is a lot of power in our direct communication with God, and divination/(it doesn't even really feel like that word describes it actually)/ messaging with God through images (mind or otherwise) is really powerful. I'm new to the bible, so I am no expert- but I have discerned His energy/love through my heart vs anything else that may come through, with inquiries that folks might consider as "divination practices." There are "seemingly magical" ways he connects- and it is indeed fascinating to see it here in Joseph. Thanks for pointing it out.
I completely agree and thank you for your comment. As God looks at the heart, I think who we are seeking and worshiping in our practice is everything. If we are putting another God before him in our search for knowledge and wisdom, obviously that’s a big no. But he has absolutely spoken to me in magical ways, especially when I was closest to him. He told me things supernaturally and I had supernatural things happen. I hope so much to get back to that connection with him through this study.
I’m behind again. 🙈 It’s interesting to me that Joseph’s story used to be my favorite, because of how he rose from despair and forgave the people that put him there… but his enslaving Egypt, him doing the very Jewish thing of taking all you have, and giving you pennies really in return… is kinda making my stomach turn this read. Idk why, I only ever focused on the good of him before… what the Egyptian’s had to give up, just to survive…kinda reminds me of current trends. 😢 Am I reading this wrong?

Haha I’m trying to envision what tearing their clothes might look like🤣

Genesis as Bravo is kind of accurate. 🤣 and that really made me laugh.
The interpretation of Elohim as many Gods led me to The Unseen Realm which I have just begun reading!!!
So… 47:26 is Joseph the OG creator of taxes with religious exemptions? 😆
“just like the lifespans of the patriarchs in the post-flood generations.” - this made me laugh. Love your recap and summaries
Hahah I'm having so much fun making dumb Bible jokes, I'm glad they are appreciated!
On the topic of Satan being counsel, a good book on God being judge and how Satan goes before him to get permission to bother us:
