The end of the summary has me in tears. I'm definitely at a point in my life where I needed to be reading Job. I do not understand my world right now and I'm tired of trying to. I just want to trust in God. πŸ’–

I pray that God turns every test into testimony and that you change the hearts of many; planting many seeds and watering many plants as God makes them grow. Keep the faith!

This is my prayer too! Thank you πŸ’–

While reading Job’s friends insisting he must have brought this upon himself, it reminded me of John 9:1-3 where the disciples asked Jesus if the blind man’s parents or if the blind man himself sinned to make him blind. And Jesus said β€œneither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life”

Sometimes God is doing something with our story that we can’t understand but ultimately is used to reveal His glory. Like Job’s story becoming part of the literal Bible.

Yes! Such a good point.

I thought about this exact story! So clearly in that culture that’s how they were taught things work.

I hate seeing people suffer. I’ve been a nurse for 23 years and life is so hard! I need to give more of what I carry to God! He gave me this weird ability to quickly look over a patient’s chart and without looking at them and see that they are dying. I am in a different position now as I was a Hospice Liaison and would have family meetings. It is my gift that is see when the end is coming and I try to help those that can’t see and support them till the end. When 90yr olds have multiple issues to knock them down I would tell the families they are so strong it won’t just be one thing that will get them as with Job. He was so strong and endured so much!

This is my first time reading the bible, so forgive me my ignorance. But God is all powerful, all-knowing. He boasts to Satan about Job. And yet, it appears to me that Satan tricks God into allowing him to torment Job to prove Job is not a faithful servant. Why would God be interacting with Satan in the first place? And wouldn't God already know how faithful and loyal Job is? Why let Satan torment Job? I am thoroughly confused, but would love someone to help me understand better.

Hi! Your question gets at the very point of the Book of Job - true faith isn't based on blessings, and blessings in this lifetime aren't based on faith. Satan does not trick God, God allows Satan to impact Job's circumstances within boundaries set by God in order to impart wisdom. Satan can ONLY act with God's permission. Second, it shows that Job's blessings aren't dependent on his devotion. And finally, it shows that while we don't get all the answers we want about why our circumstances are the way that they are, God can still be trusted.

Going into Job: I hear it's all about suffering, somehow that means I'm expecting a snore, or a lengthy Russian realism....

Actually reading Job: A TOTAL BANGER. It is dense, and reminds me of reading Classics literature, and just like them, holds a lot of wisdom to chew on. A lot of re-post-able material there, as well. Great solid grounding. Excellent inquiry. Most importantly, for me, for the now, the peace in my heart in being reminded that the only true justice is God's.

What version are you reading? I looked at several versions on the Bible app and none mention a phoenix?
