Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.

Genesis 2:7 NLT

Every mineral in the human body originates in soil.

That statement sounds strange until you slow down and actually think about it. We tend to imagine humans as somehow separate from the earth — animated matter dropped into a biological world.

But chemically, that’s not what we are at all.

We are the earth, reorganized.

Made of the literal dust of the ground.

The dominant elements in the Earth’s crust include oxygen, silicon, aluminum, iron, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and trace amounts of zinc, copper, and phosphorus. If you know even a little human biology, that list should feel uncomfortably familiar.

Calcium forms our bones.

Iron carries oxygen in our blood and fuels our mitochondria.

Magnesium drives enzymatic reactions and stabilizes ATP (adenosine triphosphate, the primary energy source for our cells).

Sodium and potassium make nerve signaling possible.

Phosphorus forms DNA, ATP, and cell membranes.

Zinc and copper regulate gene expression.

You are not chemically separate from Earth.

You’re Earth arranged temporarily into a nervous system.
